A Well Orchestrated Musical Performance at a Photo Session

[00:00:29] Scott Kivowitz: Hello, friends. I've got another short episode of Lenses & Lyrics for you. In this one, I'm gonna share a fun story. This is a story of a proposal I just photographed here, New Jersey. Now where I am in New Jersey, for some reason, the most popular request I get for proposals is at Princeton University on the campus.
And not everybody has the same reasoning. Some they met. At Princeton University while attending as students. [00:01:00] Some, just liked the architecture. Some they would go and walk the campus on their dates, but they never actually met on campus. It's just all sorts of different reasons. This one in particular was really, really good session.
The couple was fantastic, and they actually did attend. Princeton University, both of them. And they met on campus of course, so the proposal actually happened at the spot where they would have breakfasts or breakfast dates rather, while they were attending the college. Now, here is the cool part and why I'm sharing the story with you on a podcast about photography and music.
Now, this isn't really an educational part of. Of this. This isn't an ed educational story. It's just a fun mashup of photography and music because as we're walking around, there's this one wall that I have [00:02:00] been photographing lately as I've photographed clients on, on campus. There's this one wall, very large wall that I'm photographing them and it has this cool sort of angular shadow that always happens during the day and.
While photographing them. We started hearing music and I'm like, oh, that's fun. Somebody's playing music for your proposal or for the session and joking around and saying like, well that was, you know, good planning on your part to the, to my client. And all of a sudden it started turning into bigger music and it was getting closer and closer.
And I look over and I see a marching band. A marching band. Coming directly at us, right behind my clients. So I quickly had them shift off to the side, away from the wall and I, not great photos, but I got photos of them with a marching band coming behind. And side note, it was also [00:03:00] my wife's birthday weekend.
So my wife and kids came with me. My daughter was actually helping carry the flowers and, my client's bag and, and things like that. and my wife was actually recording a video behind the scenes. So I'm gonna play, behind the scenes of this. So you'll hear it. If you're watching the video version of this, you'll see it as well, but it's just so funny.
That, you know, I'm always thinking about this crossover between photography and music and sometimes when you are thinking about something and you're manifesting it, it happens. So I'm in the middle of photographing a client's proposal and their mini engagement session that I do after the proposals and I'm marching band walks by, and in fact it was the Princeton University marching band.
I don't know where they were going, what they were doing, but they were marching and playing. And it was fantastic. So of course I joked afterwards and I said to my client that was well planned, well orchestrated, pun intended. So that's [00:04:00] my story. Stay tuned for the sound of it. And even some, somebody I don't know who said something like, oh look, more people.
Something like that. I don't know. But here it goes.
